St.Michael’s Academy played St.Michael’s C of E in the first ever game against our namesakes. As in the previous league games we were too strong in every department for our gallant opponents. From kick off the lads were attacking with force and skill, culminating with a goal within 50 seconds – Declan the scorer. This continued for the whole of the first half with Finlay, Nathan, Brodey,Declan and Jude chipping in more goals to make the score 8-0 at half time. At half time Byron,Luke,Kye,William and Tommy came on to great effect and were all playing extremely well. Moreover, Harry also came on and scored – the youngest ever in the school’s history! The goals were raining in and the standard of our play was of the highest quality. This was epitomized by Rian and Haiden marauding down the left creating havoc for the opposition. At full time the team had amassed 17 without reply. the scorers were Declan(4),Jude(4),Brodey(3),Finlay(3),Nathan(2) and Harry(1). Man of the match went to the tireless Rian.
Well done to our reading team who have made it to the final of the Wolverhampton Inter-School book quiz.
We wish our Y5 & 6 pupils the best of luck for the 19th November when they play Castlecroft and Merridale Primary Schools.
The Academy team have made a thunderous start to the season. Having dispatched The Giiffard for 11 without reply, it was the turn of Bantock Primary to face the force of this talented squad. From kick off we were on the offensive and it was only a matter of time until hotshot Declan got himself on the scoresheet. Nathan, Finlay and Brodey created a host of chances which helped Declan add 4 more to his tally. Rian, who was dangerous on the left all half, added another. Nathan completed the half with a super solo effort.
The second half saw Tommy make his debut for the team and he slotted in the back three extremely well. Luke also came on and showed real quality in his passing game. Skipper Jude displayed a controlled, quality performance, turning defence into attack with ease. Jake also commanded at centre half. The goals continued to flow with Declan and Fin adding a brace each, Nathan getting another, Haiden – the flying winger – firing in and an own goal made it 14. Brodey completed the scoring with a neat finish having hit the ‘woodwork’ several times already. Bantock never gave up and gave it their all, they were a credit to their school.

Well done for completing so many laps of our Race for Life track children! Wolfie was very impressed with how many of you had raised money for Cancer Research and for those of you wearing fabulous pink costumes, wigs or crazy clothing! Look out for us in the Express and Star newspaper this week!
A huge thank you to all of the parents who helped organise, fund goodie bags, sell refreshments, collect balloons and even sprint around the track! You really helped us have a brilliant day. Good luck to all those of you running at West Park tonight too!
Congratulations to Hannah, Gracie, Olivia, Niamh, Serena, Brodey, Josh, Max, Harry and Ben (year 4) on winning the City finals at Tri-Golf. All 10 players contributed to an extraordinary performance, winning by 130 points from 2nd placed St. Stephen’s. The team will now go on to represent the city of Wolverhampton in The Black Country Games. A big thank you to all the parents who gave up their time to help transport – and support – our children to this event. It is a tribute to how parents and school contribute to the continued development of sport in our Academy.
On Tuesday 19th May, the children and staff of St Michael’s Catholic Primary Academy and Nursery, Wolverhampton, gathered together with parents, grandparents, parishioners and academy committee members to celebrate our annual May Procession.
The academy has a strong tradition of honouring Our Lady in October and May by praying a decade of the rosary together after school each day. The highlight of the celebrations, however, was the May Procession.
All the children, from Nursery up to Year 6, brought flowers to present to Mary. Year 6 led the liturgy, which included The Annunciation reading. The May Queen crowned the statue of Our Lady, ably assisted by the crown-bearer – traditionally the youngest boy in the Reception class.
Mrs McHale commented, “It is always so special to honour our spiritual mother, as we would our earthly mothers. I am so proud of all the children who helped to make this year’s May Procession extra-special.”
This year’s May Procession included a very special new song, named “Crown the Queen of Heaven” written by Mrs Jarvis who was inspired to write a unique piece especially for the crowning of the statue. The song has been an instant hit with the pupils, who commented, “From the first time that I heard it, I couldn’t stop singing it!”
On Wednesday 20th May, St.Michael’s Academy represented the City of Wolverhampton at The Black Country Games Tag Rugby Competition. The team started off well with a 6-5 win against Walsall District. They followed that up with a convincing 6-1 win against Sandwell. This set up a nail-biting game against Dudley, as the only winning team in the group would go through to the final, who were also unbeaten. The game see-sawed in tries scored until a great run zig-zagging through the opposition by Jude put us level at 5-5. We then managed with some great defence ‘tagging’ to overturn the ball. Brodey swerved his way past several challenges to make it 6-5 when the final whistle blew…or so we thought!
The secondary school leaders (who had refereed the games very well all day) had the score at 5-5 and with the Dudley team manager accepting this score to be correct, they progressed to the final. Our Academy team- although a little confused and deflated by this – showed enormous sportsmanship and fair play by accepting the decision to play off for 3rd place. We won this game and were officially Bronze medal winners!
Mr McGinn could not have been prouder of the squad who attended the competition. A real credit to our Academy ethos. Well done Emily, Keeley, Carys, Ellie, Mikey, Jude, Jake, Brodey, Shay, Tom, Shaun and Tommy.
Our Year 4 team of: Gracie,Serena, Niamh,Hanna,Olivia,Brodey,Josh,Harry,Max and Ben were outstanding in the Tri-Golf competition. Each player scored valuable team points in the putting and chipping events, held at the Royal School, to put us through to the City finals.Well done to all the team and a special thanks to all parents/family members who helped to support their children and our academy.
