Lunch Time
During lunch time children are cared for by a team of supervisors, who guide their behaviour and help them to spend their play time happily. The supervisors notify teachers about any problem that arises during the lunch time period. The academy has purchased an extensive range of play equipment that can be used by pupils during the lunchtime periods
Academy Meals
Academy meals are cooked on the premises. Our cooks are part of the fantastic team at Caterlink and make meals attractive and nutritious for the children, in line with government healthy eating/food standards guidelines. Children enjoy choosing from a range of dishes including daily sandwich, jacket potato and vegetarian options, fresh fruit salad and watermelon slices, home baked bread and a ‘help-yourself’ salad cart.
Parents have the choice of their children having an academy meal or of providing them with a packed lunch. We ask you to notify the academy in writing, in advance, if you wish your child to change from one form of meal to another. All children in Reception, Year 1, Year 2 classes are entitled to a free academy lunch every day.
For pupils in Years 3-6 and not in receipt of additional Free School Meal benefit, dinner money is paid via Arbor. The cost for a week is £11.50 (£2.30 per day)
Each child having a packed lunch must bring his/her own in a rigid plastic container, clearly and indelibly marked with his/her name. No bottles or cans of fizzy drinks etc, or hot drinks may be brought to the academy. We advise parents to provide a healthy, balanced packed lunch each day. Sweets and chocolate are not allowed in lunch boxes. Additional guidance and advice on providing healthy packed lunches is available from the School food Trust www.schoolfoodtrust.org.uk
Sandwich boxes are kept in a designated place until it is time for the children to eat. No food may be eaten at any other time or anywhere other than the stipulated place.
Milk Money
Milk Money is payable during the first week of every term, you will be advised of the amount each term.
Free Academy Meals
If your family is on a low income, your child (or children) may be entitled to receive a free meal or discounted meal every day. Both you and the academy will benefit if you take advantage of this. This is because the academy receives extra funds in proportion to the number of pupils registered for free academy meals. So long as you register, the academy will benefit, even if your child does not actually take the free meals. However we hope you would allow your child have a academy lunch, as they are attractive and good to eat. There are currently two types of free meals available dependent on circumstances. Traditional Free Meals which offer a hot meal and free milk each day and Flexible Pilot Meals which offer meals only at a discounted rate.
If you currently receive one of the following benefits, you may be eligible to receive free academy meals:
• Income Support, or
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance or
• Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or
• Support from NASS or
• Child Tax Credit with a taxable income of less than £16190 and not in receipt of Working Tax Credit or
